BUXTED PARK

WILD WEALD - BUXTED PARK HOTEL

Buxted Park was fenced within the inhospitable forest of Anderida’s Weald in the 12th century for deer hunting for the nobility, and from its first association with Norman Lords it has rarely been without regal connection. The current house was built in the early 1700s by Thomas Medley, whose family were keepers of the Privy Purse for Henry VIII, and its visitors have included Queen Victoria, George V and Queen Mary. Later, film stars including Gregory Peck and Marlon Brando visited when Buxted Park was purchased by Kenneth Shipman, owner of Twickenham Studios.

Parts of the 312 acres of formal gardens and ancient parkland have been identified as Sites of Special Scientific Interest due to the unique evolution of its ancient grasslands, parkland trees and rare invertebrate communities. It is within these environments that our sustainable activities take place.
