A free event for full time unpaid carers. Forage from our woodland clay pits and create and fire a model dolia or pot of your choice. In the afternoon you'll also fire personalised clay tiles, learn pottery burnishing, and not least, spend time in quiet ancient woodland with new friends.

About the event
This is a free event offered as respite for unpaid carers looking after someone full time.
Using our unique method, you'll create and fire your pottery to go home with at the end of the day. The clay comes from beneath your feet and the dolia, or pot of choice, will be fired in mini kilns which can be easily re-created at home (you can even take home materials to create your own kiln if you wish).
The event includes refreshments and a sandwich for lunch.
The afternoon's format was born following a simple question at an Eastbourne pottery class. 'Could we do this in our woods as the Romans might have?' Francis, drawing on his wine knowledge, set about creating models of dolia, Roman fermentation pots, and firing them using only clay, charcoal and fire.
