Wild Woodskills Day

This fun event introduces you to a range of ancient woodworking skills, during which you'll fashion an item of choice, either a 'bodger's' three-legged stool or an oak cheeseboard.

The day draws on Pam and Francis Gimblett's 26-year experience of hosting fun, interactive event formats that bring activity, information and humour together.

The event begins with the selection of the raw materials from which to create your cheeseboard or stool. From a felled ash or oak, cleaving the wood to create staves, or shingles, begins. After a safety demonstration, you'll learn how to use a froe to split the chosen wood to the correct dimensions for your creation. From there, honing your pieces begins on a shave horse. There are few as therapeutic woodland pursuits as seeing and feeling the shavings curl from your piece as you get the wood down to the desired dimensions.
