Wild Woodskills Day

The day draws on Pam and Francis Gimblett's 26-year experience of hosting fun, interactive event formats that bring activity, information and humour together.

The event begins with the selection of the raw materials from which to create your stool. From a felled ash, we start by cleaving the wood to create the base and legs. After a safety demonstration, you'll learn how to use a froe to split the chosen wood to the correct dimensions for your creation. From there, you continue by honing your pieces on a shave horse. There are few as therapeutic woodland pursuits as feeling the shavings curl away from your stool legs as they take shape.

From there, you'll craft your stool base, using traditional planes, and bevel them with antique spoke shaves.
