Here we have a day of interactive fun, making charcoal using only foraged wood, clay and friction! Set in an ancient woodland with a long history of charcoal making, the event will also include fire by friction, foraged tastings and other fun activities.

About the event
Though a new event, the afternoon draws on Pam and Francis Gimblett's 25-year experience of hosting fun, interactive formats that bring activity, information and humour together.
After a welcome drink, drawn from the woods, you'll forage for the materials you need to re-create a scale version of a traditional charcoal clamp, the ancient vehicle for transforming wood into charcoal. After an introduction that brings to life the rich iron-making history of the area, you'll have all the skills you need to approach the task in groups. We may add an element of competition.
As the event progresses, you'll partake in tastings of woodland cordials and shrubs, have a go at fire by friction, help to fill and light our ring kiln, and take part in other fun activities, as time allows.
