About the event
The Basketmakers' Challenge was born from Pam Gimblett's passion for using the woodland's boughs, stems and plants to create a host of practical items from materials that we all have access to in the countryside. The structure of the event draws on Pam and Francis Gimblett's 25-year experience of hosting fun, interactive occasions that bring activity, information and humour together.
After a welcome drink, drawn from our birch glade, you'll forage for the materials needed for the event. Then Pam will impart the skills needed to transform willow and bramble into baskets, and a variety of plants into cordage.
As the event progresses, you'll partake in tastings of woodland cordials and shrubs, have a go at birch tapping, and take part in other fun woodland activities, as time allows. Depending on how the season progresses, the woodland should be with its full carpet of anemone.
