Spend a day in the woodland learning traditional woodcraft techniques while creating a three‑legged bodger’s stool to take back with you. This hands‑on experience blends ancient skills, shared focus and practical making — an energising shift from the pace of corporate life.
About the event

Wild Woodskills offers a fully immersive craft experience that brings teams together through purposeful, tactile learning. Drawing on Pam and Francis Gimblett’s 26 years of designing interactive event formats, the day combines expert instruction, humour and hands‑on making in a woodland environment that naturally supports focus and collaboration.
The session begins with selecting raw materials from a freshly felled ash. Participants learn to cleave the wood for the stool’s base and legs, followed by a safety demonstration and guided practice using a froe to split each piece to the correct dimensions. Working on the shave horse, teams shape their components — a rhythmic, absorbing process where shavings curl away and the stool legs gradually take form.
The craft continues with shaping the stool base using traditional planes and antique spoke shaves, followed by instruction in letter carving. Each participant adds their own marker’s mark using chisel and gouge, creating a personalised, functional piece that reflects both individual effort and shared experience.
A three‑course lunch made from woodland and farm‑grown produce provides a restorative break, with refreshments available throughout the day. Wild Woodskills can be delivered as a half‑day or full‑day programme, offering teams a rare opportunity to work with their hands, learn new skills, and return to work with renewed energy and a tangible reminder of what they created together.
Your objectives
Strategy: Use the structured making process to explore focus, sequencing and resourcefulness — a practical analogue for strategic thinking and disciplined execution.
Connection: Emphasise shared craft, collaborative problem‑solving and informal woodland time to strengthen rapport, trust and team cohesion.
Respite: Lean into the therapeutic rhythm of traditional woodcraft, offering a grounding, hands‑on pause that reduces cognitive load and restores mental clarity.

"Francis and Pam at Wild Weald gave our group a wonderful day in the woods, making three legged bodgers' stools. It was so satisfying to spend a whole day crafting something from scratch in a group of friendly people, with everything we needed laid on. We were enveloped in unspoilt ancient woodland, provided with delicious lunch and warm fires. Best of all was the co operation and laughter within the group. Everyone left refreshed and renewed."
