Once a year, the acclaimed Bowler Crab Theatre Company bring Shakespeare to our woodland stage — and their productions are also available for private corporate hire.
About the event

Wild Shakespeare is our annual collaboration with the Bowler Crab Theatre Company, bringing professional Shakespeare performance to the heart of our ancient woodland. The partnership has quickly become one of Wild Weald’s most celebrated offerings: in 2025, Twelfth Night sold out rapidly and drew lavish praise, and in June 2026, Romeo and Juliet sold out before we had even advertised beyond our mailing list.
Pam, Francis and Amy host each performance, providing themed feasts that deepen the experience — from a three‑course Veronese menu for Romeo and Juliet to woodland‑foraged banquets fit for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the next public show in 2027. The result is an evening that blends theatre, nature and shared food into a memorable cultural event.
Corporate groups can book private performances, creating an unforgettable night for clients, teams or partners. For public performances, early access is offered exclusively through our mailing list. For private bookings, please contact Francis directly to discuss availability.
Your objectives
Strategy: Shakespeare’s themes of leadership, conflict and persuasion spark fresh thinking and valuable reflection — a cultural reset that sharpens strategic awareness.
Connection: A shared woodland performance creates instant rapport, offering a memorable, premium setting for team bonding or client hospitality.
Respite: Immersion in story and nature provides a restorative pause, helping teams decompress and return to work clearer and more energised.

"Romeo and Juliet by The Bowler Crab Theatre Company at Wild Weald, accompanied by a three-course, Veronese dinner, was a truly extraordinary and memorable experience. The acting and production were superb, far exceeding our expectations. And the food was beautifully prepared, thoughtfully served, and delicious. Bringing it all together was the magical woodland setting, which transformed the whole event into a immersive and impressive spectacle. I’ll definitely be going to more events by both Wild Weald and The Bowler Crab Theatre Company. Highly recommended." Robert Smith Google Review
"We recently spent a magical warm midsummer evening at Wild Weald immersed in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ performed by the fantastic Bowler Crab Touring Theatre Company. There were just 40 of us in the shady woodland watching the 7 or 8 players. A brilliant production in a completely brilliant setting. We enjoyed some really gorgeous food served between acts which made the whole Montague vs. Capulet experience an evening to remember. Verona very much came to Sussex in style." "Had a glorious time celebrating the mid-summer solstice at Weald Weald. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet was performed under the oaks by the Bowler-Crab Theatre company for an intimate audience of about 40 people. High callibre performances all round from a small crew of five actors. At each interval delicious dishes comprising a three course woodland feast were served up to us; all cooked and grown locally by Pam and Francis of Wild Weald. The whole evening was magically staged. It's a once a year thing and definitely one not to be missed." Emma Leach Google Review
